Stating that Indians are proud of the countrys Navy,Governor Satya Pal Malik said that Indias waters and land are safe as they areguarded by the Indian Navy round-the-clock.
The Governor was speaking as the chief guest on theoccasion of Navy Day function held at Navy House based at INS Gomantak inVasco. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, Minister for Transport and PanchayatsMauvin Godinho, Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida, Flag Officer Commanding Goa Area Rearand Flag Officer Naval Aviation Admiral Philipose George Pynumootil, SulakshanaSawant, Jennifer Almeida, Dempo Group of Industries chairman ShrinivasDempo, airport director Gagan Malik, Deputy Inspector General of Indian CoastGuard Goa Region Himanshu Nautiyal and officials of Indian Navy were present onthe occasion.
Navy Day is celebrated to commemorate the attack onthe Karachi harbour during the Indo-Pakistan war on this day in 1971 by theIndian Navy.

Chief Minister Sawant complimented the Navy personnel onthe occasion and said, It is a proud moment for me to attend this functionalong with the Governor Malik. The movie screened at the function itself hasrevealed that we all Indians are safe as our security is in the hands of theIndian Navy and therefore I salute the Indian Navy personnel for their effortsin safeguarding the country.
Flag Officer Commanding Goa Area Rear and Flag OfficerNaval Aviation Admiral Pynumootil said, Under the Make-in-India concept of thecentral government, 40 ships and submarines are in order and are beingconstructed in various shipyards all over India. Warships of various sizes andtypes of aircraft carriers, submarines and fast-attack aircrafts are also beingbuilt in India. The Navy has contracted 12 Dorniers and 16 advanced lighthelicopters (ALH) with Hindustan Aeronautical Ltd (HAL).
As the Navy grows, a significant number of ships are tobe planned and constructed in Goa. The Goa Shipyard Ltd (GSL) will beconstructing two state-of-the-art missile frigates projects, stated RearAdmiral adding the naval base at INS Hansa has all types of aircrafts in itsfleet.
The Rear Admiral also said that the Indian Navy hasrescued over 14,000 people in Varsha Rahat operation that was launched inMaharashtra, Karnataka and Goa. He informed that the Indian Navy is working incoordination with Centre and the state government in various fields.
