The tap water supply to Mapusa that was disrupted forpast few days was on Wednesday restored.
Around 14.5 MLD water was received which was distributed.However, many residents were not happy and complained that the supply was notsufficient.
Various parts of Mapusa received regular tap water supplygiving relief to residents who were relying on water tankers since the last fewdays to meet their day-to-day needs.
Some residents raised concern over the duration andpressure of the water supplied with some claiming that they received watersupply for 15 minutes while others said that they received tap water for anhour.
Residents of many residential complexes and buildingscomplained that though water was supplied in the morning to houses and had anormal pressure they received inadequate water.
Tejesh Gadekar, a resident of housing board colony said,Today we received regular water supply in the morning and water pressure wasalso normal. We are happy but we hope this continues so that residents donthave to bear more hardships.
We received water for around 15-20 minutes in themorning and pressure was ok but it should continue, added a Dattawadiresident.
While residents of some areas like Ansabhat, Khorlim,Shelpem and other areas on higher terrain had to still undergo hardship due topressure.
Khorlim resident Rasika Narvekar informed, In themorning water came for hardly 15 minutes and then supply stopped followingwhich all of us approached the PWD office to inquire and the engineer told usthat he will check the pipeline tomorrow.
Our problem still persists as we have to wait for watertankers to get water to meet our needs, added Narvekar.
Councillor Tushar Tople said, 14.5 MLD water wasreleased but it is not sufficient as Mapusa needs 17 MLD water every day. Thereis a need to put in place a proper action plan to deal with the water problem.
MMC chairperson Ryan Braganza informed, Today watersupply was received and same should continue and problem needs to be resolved.PWD should have a system in place wherein people are aware when water is beingreleased so that there is a system in place as in absence of information, panicis created.
To resolve the water issue, the council had takenresolutions including one to have a dedicated line for Mapusa which PWD needsto execute to resolve the water problem, added Braganza.
