As part ofits 10th anniversary celebrations, Childs Play India Foundation will beorganising a special Christmas concert on December 7, 6 p.m. at MenezesBraganza Hall, Panaji.
The evening will feature the Childs Play Chorus, theCamerata Childs Play India and performances by Aradhon, a sacred music choirfrom Goa.
Childs Play Indias mission is to instill positivevalues and provide social empowerment to Indias disadvantaged children throughthe teaching of classical music to the highest possible standard. Establishedin 2009 by physician-musician Luis Dias, the NGO has worked with hundreds ofchildren. Instruction is currently provided in violin, viola, cello, flute, piano and choir at three locations in and around Panaji. The cello and choir projectsare open to the wider community.
This concert will showcase a variety of pieces includingtraditional carols in English, Konkani and Portuguese. The orchestra will playcarols and other works such as Handels Sarabande in D minor HWV 437 and thefun-filled Toy Symphony.
Our concerts are a showcase of the continued progressour students make. It is important for students and our audience to see thatchildren and young people can play classical music to a high level. Ourconcerts are fun but we always aim for a high musical standard, even in achildrens orchestra. The pursuit of excellence can never begin too early, says Dias.
Dias adds that with Omar de Loiola Pereira coming onboard to lead the childrens choir, it was a logical step from there to invitehis much-acclaimed sacred music choir Aradhon to perform at this concert. Thisis a rare North Goa public performance by them, and I am excited at theprospect of having them share our stage, and sing alongside our children, inaddition to their own performance, he says.
Donation passes are available at Furtados Panaji andMargao and at the venue
before the concert.
